Trauma-Sensitive Math Instruction

Description: Trauma, sensory processing issues, and shame are often root causes for insufficient progress in the math classroom. This workshop will explore this connection through the personal journey of two math educators, one an early childhood trauma survivor and teacher educator who also taught college-level developmental mathematics courses; the other a National Board certified teacher in early adolescent mathematics, elementary teacher, mentor teacher, and now assistant principal. Their combined experiences, personal mother-daughter journey in understanding trauma, and practical strategies will provide insights into how to create emotionally safe and effective trauma-sensitive math instruction for all children.
